"2001 - A French Quarter Odyssey"

A 4-day flight to the New Orleans French Quarter Festival

If the Sidney Bechet Society can get 40 or more New
Orleans Jazz buffs to travel to the April 20 - 22, 2001
French Quarter Festival, we will plan a package you can't
resist.

The price, approximately $1250, will feature:

1.Flight and hotel reservations 
2.Discounted meals at a number of quality restaurants 
3.Special arrangements for us to see the best N.O. Jazz Band augmented
by Jacques Gauthe (who rivals Bob Wilber as one of the world's best
soprano sax - clarinet player a-la Sidney Bechet) and Mike Owen
(Trombonist a-la Kid Ory) 

The Silverleaf Jazz Band boasts of:
Chris Tyle - Leader and quadruple threat on clarinet, trumpet, cornet
and drums
Duke Heitger - Powerful, solid trumpet a-la Louis Armstrong, 1930
Brian Ogilvie - One of the best New Orleans clarinetists today a-la
Jimmy Noone

I have suggested to Chris Tyle that, if possible, he record this 4-set
concert.

4.Discounts/special treatment on a variety of enjoyable attractions. I will
investigate the Palm Court CafŽ, The Storyville, The Paddle-Wheelers,
The "Old Mint" Jazz Museum and a few other close-by features. 

Thursday, April 19 - Fly and check-in at the hotel
8 P.M. to 12:30 A.M. - The Sidney Bechet Society
Concert
Friday, April 20, through Sunday, April 22:
11:30 A.M. to 7 P.M. - Approximately 50 bands playing
at 9 outdoor locations - all free
8 P.M. to 12:30 A.M. - Many of the bands (including
N.O. style bands from England, Italy, Australia, Germany,
Scandinavia, etc.) will be playing at local clubs.

If possible, I will distribute catalogues of George Buck's
fabulous CD's transcribed from his 1917 through 1960's
record library plus his own produced and recorded
sessions of the best New Orleans groups today. George
and his wife, Nina (Owner of the Palm Court CafŽ
[downstairs]), are institutions in New Orleans.

So, for 4 days, you can see wall-to-wall of the best of
New Orleans players today - players who sacrifice much
better paying gigs in order to play New Orleans style.

Confirming flights and hotels in New Orleans has to be
done at least 15 months ahead of time, so please, please,
